Monitoring Human Rights in Latin America with the Assistance of Statistical Information
Monitoring gross human rights violations remains a critical challenge to human rights scholars and activists as do the monitoring of rights of special groups in the population in particular that of the most vulnerable groups: women, children, racial/ethnic groups, indigenous groups, amongst others. The paper discusses this continued challenge and the means to circumvent it developed by organised groups and by scholars in order to monitor progress or deterioration and to pressure officials into fulfilling their roles as purveyors.
