Sérgio Adorno

Biografia

Sérgio Adorno holds a BA in Social Sciences from the University of Sao Paulo (1974), a PhD in Sociology from the University of Sao Paulo (1984), and a Postdoc from the Centre for Recherches Sociologiques sur le Droit et les Institutions Pénales, CESDIP, France (1994-1995). He currently (since 2004) serves as Professor of Sociology at the FFLCH – Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences of the University of Sao Paulo, Scientific Coordinator of the Center for the Study of Violence - USP (1990-present), President of ANDHEP – National Association of Human Rights – Research and Graduate Studies (2002-2008), Area Representative for the Human Sciences/Sociology and Member of the CAPES Technical-Scientific Council – Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (2004-2009), Consultant at the CSP – Oswaldo Cruz Foundation Public Health Journals – Fiocruz, Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit, by the Ministry of Science and Technology (2008), Member of the Advisory Board of the scientific journal Análise Social, Institute of Social Sciences-Lisbon University, President of the Editorial Board of Revista USP (2010-2015), Member of the Advisory Board of the scientific journal Passagens: Revista Internacional de História Política e Cultura Jurídica of the Graduate Program in History of the Fluminense Federal University, Member of the Scientific Committee of the ANPG Journal: Science, Technology and Educational Policies, institutional scientific journal of the ANPG – National Association of Graduates, Responsible for the UNESCO Chair Education for Peace, Human Rights, Democracy and Tolerance, Scientific Coordinator of the CEPID/FAPESP USP Project called “Building Democracy Daily: Human Rights, Violence and Institutional Trust” (2013-2018). Has extensive experience in the field of Sociology, with emphasis on Political Sociology, and particularly interested in the following subjects: violence, human rights, urban crime, social control, and social conflicts.
